Determined Man Jumps In Sea To Catch Fish After It Unhooked Itself

The brave fisherman impulsively jumped straight in after the large Halibut he'd reeled in wriggled off the hook

A determined fisherman hurled himself into the sea after the huge fish he had reeled in wriggled free of the hook.

The fisherman and his friend had been fishing off Dana Point Harbor, just south of LA in California, US, when his rod began to bend with the force of the big catch at the other end of the line.

He immediately grabbed the rod and began to reel it in, arching his back to counteract the force of the fish.

Commenting to his friend filming the catch on a mobile phone, he discussed how impressive his rod was (get your mind out of the gutter).

He said: "This thing handles so good, like beyond belief. It's just so easy to reel. It just pins and pulls, it's rad. This thing is my favourite pole."

He continued to reel in his catch. As the fish breached the surface of the water and the fisherman saw the size of what he had caught - a large white halibut - he shouted: "Oh my lord!"

As he started to pull the line in by hand, in his excitement he misjudged the strength of the hook in the fish's mouth and pulled it right out.

Without thinking, he instantly threw himself into the sea after his catch, grabbing it by the mouth with his hand.

Victoriously holding the fish against his body - still floating in the sea - he said: "Bro I wasn't letting this fucker go.

"Ow it's biting me!"

He hurled the fish onto the boat and proudly pulled himself back on board, soaking wet.

He said: "That was the save of a lifetime. I jumped in and grabbed it."

Talking to his friend holding the camera, he said: "My net! I didn't have my net, I wanted you to net it."

Describing the incident, the impulsive fisherman's friend said: "My best friend and I went fishing on his boat out of the Dana Point Harbor.

"When we hooked into a large Halibut my friend reeled it in and when the fish got up to the boat it thrashed around and spit the hook out.

"Without thinking my best buddy jumped into the ocean, grabbed the fish and stuck his hand in the fish's mouth to be able to land the fish into the boat.

"I'm so lucky I was there to film this incredible experience."

Surely there's far too many videos of sharks nicking hooked fish out there to go diving in after them. Fair play to that guy - he's a braver man than me.
