At least five animals darted towards Abi's car and jumped onto the roof during a frantic scuffle between the male and females...

An African safari sounds bloody awesome: sitting in a car, singing 'Circle of Life' at the top of your lungs while all your favourite animals walk around. In reality, it's nowhere near like that and sometimes you might be lucky to see just one species, let alone everyone from The Lion King.

Well, a group of tourists certainly got more than they bargained for during their visit to the West Midlands Safari Park in Bewdley, Worcestershire.

Travelling along in their Hyundai i-30, Abi Tudge and her mate were enjoying the sights until a pride of lions took a liking to their vehicle.

"We could see as we got into the enclosure that the lions were making a lot of noise, and that a few of them were wrestling with one another," she said.

"They were dashing around after one another - I think there was a female that they were trying to chase.

"The employees weren't able to open the gates to let us out because of the disturbance. Then, out of nowhere, a load of them darted towards my car and started jumping all over it."

Thankfully, Abi didn't think they were targeting her, which provided a tiny bit of relief, but it was still a scary situation. She and her friend tried hard to keep their composure to ensure the two kids in the backseat didn't freak out.

"I think they were just running from one place to the other, and my car happened to be an obstacle in their way, so they hurtled over it," she added.

"One of them went up on the bonnet, and another one managed to jump on the roof. They really got up close and personal.

"Eventually the gates opened so that we could get out, and we just carried on our day as normal."

There's now a decent looking paw print dent on Abi's car, which is kind of cool. Most dents or scratches are the result of terrible driving, but the 23-year-old can casually boast to friends that a goddamn lion scuffed up her vehicle.

A spokesperson for the safari park has explained the probable cause behind the situation, saying: "The male lions have been in the process of being mixed with the females for a few months now.

"This has been going well and there was no reason to believe that there would be any issues yesterday as a result of mixing.

"As with all wild animals, normally harmonious groups can on occasion become particularly active."

They say thankfully no guests were ever in danger.
