An unnamed elderly man has tugged at the heart strings of thousands after a story of his generosity went viral.

Abigail Crewe, along with her sister, Jemma, and her daughter, were at ASDA in West Yorkshire doing a bit of shopping.

An elderly gentleman made a fuss over her four-year-old and insisted on buying her a Minnie Mouse toy for Christmas as he had 'no family of his own and all he wanted to do was buy a Christmas gift for somebody'.

Abigail shared the story to Facebook where it has been liked nearly 180k times.

It reads: "Today I popped to Asda at Shipley with my sister Jemma Crewe and my four month old daughter when this gentleman began to make a fuss over my daughter.

"We smiled and made polite conversation. We walked further down the Christmas gifts where he was stood and held out his hand with some money and pointed to the Disney teddies and insisted he bought one for her. I quickly denied this generous offer but he insisted and went on to tell us that he lost his wife 18 months prior and she loved micky mouse.

"He went onto say he has no family of his own and all he wanted to do was buy a Christmas gift for somebody. So we let him buy a Minnie mouse for her.... My heart is well and truly full of love today.

"This man made my day and it will be a Christmas story I will tell to my little girl every year when she asks what Christmas is all about. what an amazing man[sic]."

This Christmas, let's make sure that no-one eats alone. For example, a Turkish restaurant in London is offering a free three-course meal to the homeless and the elderly on Christmas Day. Why are more people not doing this?!
