Lad With Down's Syndrome Starts Up His Own Successful Online Sock Shop

What a legend!

John Cronin loves socks. He also loves making people happy. He and his dad decided to bring both of these passions together and start up a sock shop to try and spread the happiness a bit further.

The 21-year-old has Down's Syndrome and is a massive follower of the Special Olympics. He himself is a Special Olympics athlete and enjoys snowshoe, basketball, track, football, floor hockey and bowling.

In fact, he's even been named an alternate to the U.S. National Snowshoe Team for the Special Olympics World Games this month.

Every November, he dives into freezing water as part of the annual Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. But this wasn't enough for him. He needed to do more.

After he and his dad, Mark, set up 'John's Crazy Socks', they decided to give even more back and dedicate five percent of all of their profits to the Special Olympics.

Their shop includes wild and wacky designs, with many of them dedicated to particular causes.

One such cause is Autism Awareness - they have a whole line of socks dedicated to this and ensure $2 (£1.64) from the sale of every pair go to 'organisations supporting and championing people with autism'.

John is currently studying retailing and customer service at the local tech high school, and he clearly has a knack for selling. They say: "As part of his personality, John pays attention to others and there's nothing that makes him happier than coming through for someone else."

John's Crazy Socks also say: "For John's Crazy Socks, the focus is easy to see: socks, socks and more socks, but not just any socks. We seek those socks that will make a difference, that will make you smile or laugh, that will tug at your heart, that will add some zest to your life.

"We are all about socks that will matter to you - that you will love and cherish."

They've now sold over 1,000 pairs of socks and show no sign of slowing down. Every pair so far has been accompanied by a handwritten note courtesy of John, and some sweets.

This is a bloke who absolutely loves socks and the Special Olympics, and is doing something amazing to try and incorporate both.

What a lad.
