Mum Transforms Her Spare Room Into The Ultimate 'Woman Cave'

“Men get to have all the fun with their man caves, so I thought why can't women?”

We've all heard of a man cave, right? A sanctuary in a person's home where the man of the house can retreat and chill.

It's a pretty outdated concept because, let's face it, women could do with a chill room too.

This was the thought of mum Carla Lister from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, who decided to build herself an epic woman cave, complete with a table, chairs and self-serve bar.

What's more, the transformation only cost £400 - booze included - and took a week to put together. Changing Rooms, eat your heart out.

The 38-year-old carer put her DIY skills to good use after a 'spontaneous' decision to transform her spare room into a place where she could have a hangout with pals or alone time to unwind.

The space was previously used as a spare bedroom.

"I love it," said Carla. "It's something I've always wanted and I'm going to enjoy it."

As well as a bar, the silver and rose-gold room features a beer fridge, fibre optic lights and quirky signs including one that lists her tongue-in-cheek 'bar rules'.

Initially Carla was hoping to build the woman cave at the end of her garden, but after realising the space limitations she decided to go with their spare bedroom instead.

She added: "It came to me last week. I was Hoovering up and I thought this room doesn't get used, so I'd go for it in here.

"I did it all by myself. I used an IKEA cube unit and MDF for the bar area. And I used the remaining wallpaper to cover it.

"My sister couldn't believe it, she said she didn't think it would look like that. She thought the results were unbelievable."

Safe to say I'm pretty jealous - if you are too, why not have a go at making your own? Carla revealed how she managed to stick to the budget, by using units from IKEA to construct the bar and covering it in exposed brick wallpaper from The Range.

The accessories like the shelves and wine rack are from B&M and the dispenser, neon bar light and furniture were from Amazon. Then all it needs is a few bottles of booze and you're good to go.

So whether you're a man or a woman, you too can create your very own person cave - courtesy of Carla's creative genius.
