Kim Kardashian Is Slammed Online For Releasing ‘Feminist’ Emoji Range

She has avoided being labelled a feminist in the past and critics suspect she's just trying to cash in on the term

Kim Kardashian has had a rocky history with the word 'feminist'.

She's been slammed by people like Piers Morgan, who argue that posting naked pictures of herself on social media isn't empowering, or helping the feminist movement. In fact, he suggests, it's doing the exact opposite.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kim has admittedly posted a blog on her website why she doesn't define herself as a feminist, so presumably she'd have agreed with that.

But you can imagine her fans would have been surprised to see an apparent change of heart when she debuted a series of 'Feminist' emojis in time for International Women's Day, as part of her 'Kimojis' range.

While there are some emojis that have phrases like 'My Body, My Choice' and 'Fulltime Feminist', there are some icons that are more debatable in a feminist context - although many would argue feminism should be able to take many different forms.

But a big reason why people are so pissed off is that Kimmy K has waited to release this on IWD and is charging a whopping $2.99 (£2.15) for a few new emojis.

One person wrote: "This is why people don't always take #Feminism seriously these days (me included) y'all are all like yasss and slay cos of Kim Kardashian #Kimoji which you must pay $2.99 for, conveniently just in time for #InternationalWomensDay as if this isn't a money grab."

Another added: "Kim Kardashian should donate the money she makes from her feminist Kimoji pack to a charity that supports women/women's rights rather than pocket it. Didn't she wanna get involved in helping planned parenthood? Now is her chance!!! Just saying!"

People have also pointed out her older line of Kimojis casts doubt over whether this is 'feminist', calling into question their depiction of body image, among other things.

People were surprised in 2015 when Mrs Kardashian-West announced that she didn't label herself a feminist, but that's only because she doesn't like labels.

She wrote: "Obviously, there are things about me that people might say make me a feminist: I work hard, I make my own money, I'm comfortable and confident in my own skin, and I encourage women to be open and honest about their sexuality, and to embrace their beauty and their bodies.

"Why do we have to put labels on things?"

"I'm a human being, and I have thoughts, feelings and opinions about a lot of different things."

Maybe she's happier to label herself a feminist these days - or at least on International Women's Day.
