Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk showed once again what a nice guy he is, after he surprised the widow of his late friend by giving her house a make-over.

Kerry Overman was completely lost for words when he revealed her brand-new kitchen, living-room and bathroom on an episode of My Houzz.

Tony's best friend Ray Underhill, who had been married to Kerry, died of a rare form of cancer back in 2008 and at the time, Tony says, he made a promise to himself to help out the family in any way he could.

Speaking on My Houzz, Tony said: "He and I skated together through the '80s and '90s. I think it was 1989, we were in our late teens, early twenties. . . and I will never forget seeing Kerry see Ray next to me, and they did not stop looking at each other for the rest of the night, pretty much for years afterwards. It was truly like I got to witness love at first sight."

Tragically, Ray was later diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer. "It was devastating," Tony says.

"We were completely shocked. He tried to go through all the treatments and ended up losing the battle."

The family's home, according to Tony, was in major need of an update, so he set to work with a design team to bring the house up to date. And hats off to him, he did a very good job.

Kerry was delighted with the overhaul, saying: "It's like one big space that we can all enjoy. I never would have thought to open it up. It's beautiful. It's perfect."

Following his death, Tony remained close to the family and gets along well with Kerry's new husband. He went on to explain how he became godfather to two of their children, with Kerry saying: "Tony is Uncle Tony. He's been there from day one. He's been a blessing in my life."

And Tony takes the chance to give himself a quick pat on the back, adding: "She loves it, so mission accomplished. She loves it more than I even imagined.

"I love this family and I'm so thankful to be part of it."

Ahh, I'm welling up here.
