Student Left 'Looking Like Mahogany Table' After Fake Tan Fail

The 23-year-old spent hours trying to soak off the dark colour

As the weather finally warms up, people are turning to fake tan to give themselves a bit of bronze look minus the sun damage - but of course, with fake tans come fake tan fails, which are always pretty fun.

Jessica Clarke found out first-hand how tricky a good fake tan application can be after she was left 'looking like a mahogany table' while trying to achieve a golden glow.

Jessica, 23, slathered on a layer of St Moriz's Darker Than Dark fake tan, and let me tell you, that name is not an exaggeration; check it out:

Jessica, from Wallsend, Tyne & Wear, said: "When I looked in the mirror the next morning it looked terrible.

"I couldn't see my face, I was just eyes and teeth. I took a picture and sent it to friends who were pretty shocked but then laughed.

"I had a bath and thought I'd try and soak it off, it didn't go well. The water went completely black, I was in there about half an hour trying to scrub it off.

"I was due at college so I had to go in as I didn't want to miss my classes. I was a bit nervous about going in and walking around college the colour I was.

"I looked like a mahogany dining room table, it was terrible. My skin was just a really dark wood effect."

Fair play for still going into college Jessica, that's some dedication to your studies. I think I'd have gone into hiding.

Her chances of going unnoticed were pretty slim really, weren't they? And, poor Jessica had to spend the day on her nursing and midwifery course getting some pretty odd glances from her classmates.

She rushed home from college and soaked in another bath to try and soak off the colour.

"That night I got back in the bath," she said. "And sat for another half an hour, the water was so mucky.

"After a while I started to gradually look normal again which made me very happy.

Jessica said: "I regularly fake tan, I've done it once a week for five years. I prefer it over sunbeds because of the health implications and the dangers of skin cancer.

"I usually use dark fake tan, this time I used Darker Than Dark as I fancied going a little bit darker.

"As soon as I put it on I realised it was very dark straight away. I couldn't believe what I was seeing in the mirror."

Now if you're thinking that this whole experience has put our pal Jessica off fake tanning then you are dead wrong.

"At the finish I was really pleased with how it turned out," she said. "So much so that I've bought another two bottles.

"I'll just need to do it a few days before I go out next time and make sure I've got no plans so I can hide inside."

Fans of fake tan fails might remember that this particular tan is the one that left a woman 'looking like Princess Fiona from Shrek' a few weeks back.

St Moriz declined to comment.
