Former Drug Addict Turns His Life Around After His Twin Brother Died In His Arms

Such an inspirational story.

Chris Hill's story is proof that no matter what happens in your life, there's always time to turn it around.

The 44-year-old is a former drug addict who now runs workshops to help other people in the same situation to get clean and start again. Not only that, but he's also written a book called 'Get Your Life Back: The Road to Freedom from Addiction'.

It's hard to believe that 10 years ago he was addicted to crack cocaine and heroin.

Speaking to TheLADbible, he explained: "My life has been a journey of all kinds of addictions - starting with smoking my first cigarette at the age of seven, through to taking crack cocaine and heroin some 20 years later.

"I always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with what I was doing but I had no way out, or so I thought. Cigarettes, cocaine and alcohol all came too easily, especially in pubs and clubs. I went through the late 80s with all the ecstasy tablets and the acid house music, it was too much of a pull to say no."

Soon, he began getting involved in football violence and criminal activities.

One day, he came home from a golf trip and his wife handed him a positive pregnancy test. it was then that he decided to beat his addictions.

"I am a very determined person and I went in search of the answers to solve my problems," Chris explained, "I began reading books based on addiction, I tried various pills and poisons issued by my doctor and I attended addiction clinics to try to end my cravings for the drugs I was taking. Through trial and error, and after at least 100 attempts to stop, I finally found my freedom."

"That was over 10 years ago and I have continued to study subjects surrounding addiction and have discovered that we have a 'subconscious mind' and that it is actually this that controls our lives."

The biggest shock was when he tragically lost his twin brother, Rob, three years ago. He explained: "I lost him to a drug overdose, he died in my arms."

His efforts to help others was spurned on by the loss of his brother: "Losing my brother was like losing a part of myself. I knew there and then that I had to do something different to help others. I couldn't stay silent about addictions anymore. It was time to pull my socks up, sort myself out and spread the word that you can beat addictions, any addictions with the right guidance."

Currently, he's about to do his first ever London seminar which takes place on February 4 in London. He also runs free help and support workshops in Sidcup, does public talks in an attempt to help others, goes live on Facebook at 8pm every evening for an addiction workshop, as well as running an online course and working with charities and homeless people in London. Wow.
