It’s such a sad story.

After 15 months of battling with a malignant brain tumour, five-year-old Josh McCormack has lost his battle with cancer. His endless positivity in the face of a horrible disease had won the hearts of lots of people around the UK.

His mum, Nicola, shared the news on her Facebook page, Josh McCormack Fundraiser, which has more than 8,000 followers, and railed against the cancer that took her beloved son.

With a heavy heart, she revealed that: "At 1.30am this morning our world ended when Joshua fell into an eternal sleep."

Unfortunately Josh's last hours on Earth were not peaceful and he was gasping for air and struggling - a sight that horrified the helpless mum as she said it was the most traumatic thing she had ever experienced.

"So cancer," wrote Nicola. "I hope you are now truly satisfied: YOU have won, YOU were brutal, YOU were pure evil and unbelievably torturous to our beautiful Joshua's perfectly loving mind and body."

It was only a few months ago in September that Nicola asked people to stop sending money to her son's fundraiser. Nicola and Kevin had hoped to send Josh to America for treatment and had been raising £20,000 in funds - but the doctors had told them he was too sick to travel and that he only had a few weeks left to live.

"I am so sorry as your mummy I can not do more but most of all know how proud I am of you," Nicola wrote on her farewell post.

The Facebook page is full of wellwishers, sending love and commiserations to the family. Some people are planning to let loose some balloons in Josh's honour. Amanda Crossley wrote: "Fly high young man. You have touched so many hearts xxx".

And Lorraine Blackburn commented: "I'm absolutely heartbroken for you."

I wish the best for Josh's mum and dad. RIP Josh McCormack.
