Finding out the gender of your unborn baby can be an emotional time for any parent-to-be, but it was even more so for one woman as the voice telling her was that of her late father.

Jennifer Jones-Prothro, 38, from Vacaville, is currently expecting her ninth child in December, and was determined to keep the baby's gender a secret on this occasion, or at the very least ensure that the reveal was a really meaningful moment for her family.

Jennifer had learned the gender of each child in advance with every other pregnancy - but the difference was her dad, Charles, was alive during her other pregnancies, but had died last year of cancer.

In order to make this occasion extra special, her husband James, 43, arranged the perfect surprise, using the voice of her late father to deliver the news, together, that they are having a baby girl.

Storyful

In the heart-warming video Jennifer can be seen crossed-legged, holding a speak near her.

Suddenly a recording of James's voice begins to play.

He says; "Jenny, this is the most special, creative way that I could think of to tell you the sex of our child,' the recording explains, then adds: "But I couldn't do it without a little help."

It's then the heart-wrenching moment Charles's voice comes through to give Jennifer her the good news.

In the recording he says: "Hello Jenny, this is your father!" - which, to begin with is enough to knock the mum-to-be for six as Jennifer looks struck with disbelief.

She's not alone there, people in the background can be heard exclaiming their shock and awe.

The voice continues: "I want to let you know that it is a girl."

With this the emotional soon-to-be mum-of-nine breaks down with tears of utter joy as she clings the speaker in one hand and covers her tear-covered face with the other.

"It is a girl," the recording repeats, before signing off, one last time: "I love ya, bye bye!"

James made the recording using old voicemails Charles had left Jennifer while he was still alive.

It turns out James had learnt the sex of his ninth baby months ago but had kept it a secret in memory of her dad who always wanted the sex of the baby to be a surprise at the birth.

She told CNN: "My dad always wanted to be surprised by it. There are not many surprises left in the world these days."

However, it all became a bit difficult when six months in to the pregnancy her friends and family wanted to throw her a themed baby shower, so she decided she wanted to know, but needed it to be special.

Storyful

That's when James came up with the idea to use her late father's voice to reveal the gender.

Since Jennifer's daughter Ava posted the video on social media it has racked up an utterly staggering 7.36 million views in just days of being online.
