Ben & Jerry's Voted Best Ice Cream Tub For National Ice Cream Day

Ben & Jerry's Voted Best Ice Cream Tub For National Ice Cream Day

Here's hoping we get the weather to go with it

Choosing the best ice cream tub is a bit like choosing the best breed of dog - difficult and pointless.

But we asked you to decide anyway, seeing as though 21 July is National Ice Cream Day, and it turns out there seems to be quite the consensus.

Given the choice of Ben & Jerry's, Häagen-Dazs, Carte D'Or or any other tub, a majority of 66 per cent of people plumped for Ben & Jerry's. Häagen-Dazs claimed silver with 23 per cent, while Carte D'Or didn't even get close with a pitiful 6 per cent.

If you've never heard of National Ice Cream Day, that's probably because it is a national celebration in the US. Still, if it's a day dedicated to eating lots of ice cream, surely that is something we can all get on board with.

The day was founded 35 years ago, when President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday of July as National Ice Cream Day and the month of July as National Ice Cream Month.

While people may debate some of the decisions he made during his time in The Oval Office, I think we can all agree that July is a good choice of month for National Ice Cream Month; February, for example, would have been a terrible choice of month.

Venues across the US will be dishing out the cold stuff and even dogs will be able to get their tongues on the good stuff it seems.

While there are bound to be cafes and restaurants across the UK celebrating the occasion, whether we will have ice-cream weather seems less certain, with storms forecast for large swathes of the country.

The good news though is that once the storms pass, a heatwave is forecast for next week, with highs of 34C expected. So, if the weather doesn't play ball today, then you can always make up for it in a couple of days. Alternatively, you could always get a tub of Ben & Jerry's in and celebrate on the couch.
