Melbourne Homeowner Posts Ad For Vegan-Only Tenants

Melbourne Homeowner Posts Ad For Vegan-Only Tenants

People are furious that they're not able to apply for a perfectly good house just because they eat meat.

When you're posting an ad looking for housemates, it's understandable that you want similar minded people.

Whether you're looking for someone chilled out, someone to have a beer with or watch Netflix with, there are people from all different backgrounds who have fulfil those needs.

But it seems as though someone in Melbourne was being very specific about their living arrangements when their ad made clear that only vegans can apply.

In the most Melbourne post imaginable, the four-bedroom Frankston property was available to anyone happy to give up meat and dairy for the rest of their tenancy.

In screenshots obtained by Channel 9, the ad reads: "Beautiful house just opposite Frankston waterfront and walking distance to bayside shopping centre/railway.

"House is only for vegan family, no other food/beverages allowed in the house."

Hey, at least it comes fully furnished.

Naturally, people were pretty pissed that someone would discriminate based off someone's dietary choices. A 25-year-old mother who had recently been forced out of her home told A Current Affair that this shouldn't be legal.

"Why should I be discriminated against just because I like pork roast?"

People on social media agreed, asking how the homeowner was going to ensure that no meat or dairy was going to seep its way into the home.

However, this isn't a one-sided situation as the direct opposite can also happen in the rental market.

Now one grumpy landlord was been accused of discrimination after he banned vegans from applying to live in his spare room.

The live-in landlord, listed as 'Alex' on a SpareRoom advert that went live on Monday, warned viewers in block capitals: 'IF YOU'RE VEGAN, DON'T BOTHER,' before continuing to list other requirements.

His duplex apartment, located in Manchester boasts a spacious living room, bathroom and two bedrooms for £700 per month.

The picky proprietor, 27, even did his best to scare off grubby flatmates by writing: 'if you're untidy in general - forget it'. He's a man who knows what he wants, I suppose.

Alex brags that he is a 'pretty nice guy', 'laidback' and not 'your typical landlord that everyone hates' - before he goes on to warn prospective tenants not to 'take the piss'. Sounds really chilled and likeable.
