They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gives you the best start and helps you through your morning.

While cereals range from healthy to unhealthy, you can be damn sure having strange pills mixed in with them is not part of the nutritional guidelines.

Well, that's what one Australian family has experienced after tucking into a bowl of Coco Pops.

Imagine finding this in your Coco Pops.

Four-year-old Alex was happily eating the cereal one morning until he found a weird looking pink capsule at the bottom of the bowl. Luckily it hasn't been pierced or broken.

He told his mum, Karlee Tweedie, who understandably freaked out.

Who knows what it could have been: anti-psychotic medication, ecstasy, cancer treatment.

Thankfully, and ironically, it was a weight loss pill given to obese patients, according to The Sun. But while the capsule could have been harmless, it does have side effects such as diarrhoea and vomiting.

Speaking to Yahoo7 News, she said: "I made my son a bowl of cereal, he finished it and at the bottom of the bowl after he was finished was the tablet,

"I was worried and thought, what the hell is this?"

Following the incident, Karlee wrote a message on Facebook, warning her mates to be on the lookout for strange ingredients.

She wrote: "Everyone with kids who eat coco pops please be careful Alex was eating cereal and at the end we found a capsule in it. Has been confirmed the tablet is in fact Duromine."

It's highly unlikely that this is going to be a repeat occurrence, but you can never be too sure in 2019.

Kellogg's has released a statement to The Sun, saying an investigation is underway to find out how the hell a weight loss pill ended up in a bowl of Coco Pops.

"We're in contact with a consumer who has let us know she found a tablet in her Coco Pops," the company said.

"The health and safety of our consumers is our number one priority.

"Along with manufacturing based on strict quality standards, we also have policies in place that prohibit employees bringing medications into the plant. "We are doing a full investigation with our team and are staying in touch with the consumer."

"Based on the available information, our food on the shelf is safe to eat."

Maybe have a cursory glance at your cereal next time you load up a bowl.
