The old saying of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' may apply to most areas in life - but when it comes to our favourite chocolatey treats, we say go for it.

And now an old classic seems to have heard our plea, with M&Ms unveiling three new flavours to drool over.

That's right, now you can enjoy M&M Crunchy Raspberry, M&M Crunchy Espresso and M&M Crunchy Mint, which are all being released this spring.

Instead of the usual milk chocolate filling, each M&M is stuffed with a tasty dark chocolate centre that's studded with crispy rice, with pink, brown and green candy coatings denoting the raspberry, coffee and mint flavours.

And because they're not due to be on shelves officially until spring, the good folk at The Today Show have taken it upon themselves to taste test the new flavours - nice of them, isn't it?

One person said: "I would eat the whole bag of espresso ones, because they remind me of chocolate-covered coffee beans.

"I just wish they were more coffee-flavored."

The Crunchy Mint proved a little divisive, with one person squealing in delight saying that they tasted like 'Girl Scout cookies', while another deemed them a little too similar to the taste of toothpaste. Hmmm.

The raspberry flavour was arguably the least popular of the bunch, with the tasters finding the fruit flavour 'too artificial' or simply too sweet.

By the looks of things, the new flavours are only available in the US, but fingers crossed they'll be releasing them to the rest of the world so that we can give them a go, too.

The other bad news is that, alas, the new M&Ms are limited edition and won't be around forever. Instead, chocolate lovers can cast their vote for their favourite of the three, with whichever one that comes out on top remaining on shelves for the next year-and-a-half.

Recently it was also announced that there would finally be a solution to the long-running toss-up between the chocolate, crispy and peanut variants of M&Ms - with the introduction of mixed bags featuring all three.

If you're in the UK, these bags of deliciousness are also an absolute bargain, as they are currently on offer at Tesco for just £1 - down from their usual price of £1.50.

Like we said, sometimes reinventing the wheel isn't exactly a bad thing...
