Vegemite Is Being Flogged For $19 A Jar At Sydney Airport

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Vegemite is one of those 'love it or hate it' products in Australia. There's no in between, no on the fence, no middle ground on this topic - it's either a daily staple or never to be seen.

But if you're a lover of the black stuff and have also wanted to enjoy it overseas, then make sure you pack a jar before you leave because you'll need to take out a small mortgage to buy it at Sydney Airport.

A Redditor has posted a picture of Vegemite being sold for a whopping $19 for a 560g jar.

Reddit

For comparison, the same jar is sold for around $8 at the normal supermarkets. People have been slagging off the airport for inflating the price of our delicious nectar.

"The infamous 'your fault for not ducking up to the shops before your flight' tax," said one person.

Another wrote: "Probably be cheaper to get a taxi to Wolli Creek Woolies, buy your Vegemite there, then get another taxi back to T1."

So if you're planning on surprising your overseas mates on a holiday (or you love it so much that you can't bare to be without it on your trip) make sure you pick up plenty before you get to the airport as it'll set you back a pretty penny.

This isn't the first time Sydney Airport has had a Vegemite related issue.

Reddit

A customer at a café in the building was served a despicable amount of the product on three pieces of toast. The serving was roasted online for being un-Australian.

One viewer said: "I'm fairly sure that's illegal in Australia."

"I don't know what's more obscene, calling that mess 'toast' or the appalling lack of vegemite on it," said another.

One of the Redditors claimed to have worked at the offending café and said the person in charge of the order would regularly put too much on and was told off about it.
