The Iron Throne plays the hit programme's theme song, naturally

Game of Thrones and Monopoly - could any TV series and board game go hand in hand quite so well?

Both are epic, in terms of drama and their sheer duration. Both revolve around conquest and fierce rivalries. Both are taken way too seriously.

Naturally then, 'Monopoly: Game of Thrones' already exists, but the second edition has a few nice new additions that promise to make the board game-based drama even more dramatic.

A notable new feature, destined to have players salivating with delight, is an Iron Throne card holder. Not convinced? Wait for this - it plays the Game of Thrones theme music as you do battle/play the board game.

Can you even begin to imagine the thrill of taking ownership of a hotel on Mayfair while that ballad blasts from a little iron/plastic chair!? Oh no wait, there is no Mayfair, or any hotels for that matter. It's full Westeros submersion, we're talking castles and keeps and all that jazz.

As such, you 'll have to pick a new favourite counter. Gone are the hat and the doggy and the battleship, in are Great House sigils, such as the Lannister Lion.

The money as well is Game Of Thronesy, and the name of the game is to claim enough of the cardboard coins to send all your rivals into bankruptcy - which admittedly is a far less gory outcome than fans of the series are used to.

You'll need proper real world non-dragon-porn-based tender to buy the game though, $30 (£23) to be precise. Weirdly though, the game isn't available to buy until January, which will no doubt come as a hammer blow to those of you who were already relishing the prospect of a festive family Game Of Thrones monopoly battle royale.

Don't get too down in the dumps though, the eighth and final season of the GOT is released in April, and each episode will be more than an hour long. So only a few months of wicked board gaming and it will be here.

In the meantime, suppose you and the family could just get the normal monopoly board out and play the music from a speaker, would that be the same? No? What if you all dressed up like your favourite characters too, would that do it? No?

Ok, sorry. Let's just wait til January.
