A young woman whose obsession with make-up got so severe it led her to be sectioned has been praised for appearing on This Morning, having faced her demons and embraced her natural looks.

Before last December, it wasn't uncommon for Amy Robb, 24, to get up at 4:15 am to begin applying cosmetics - and her boyfriend of five years had never seen her natural complexion.

However, after battling through her issues and discovering a new-found love for blogging, Amy has turned a corner and wants to help others in similar situations.

Amy, whose mental health deteriorated so much that she attempted suicide several times, appeared on This Morning to display her new confidence.

Speaking to presenters Phillip and Holly about her daily routine, Amy said: "It was absolutely absurd looking back on now. I was spending and hour and a half on my routine but I didn't bat an eyelid on it.

"It really infuriated me that I was spending so much time doing it but I had to put on make-up.

"It was a whole big regime to take it off as well. Honestly it was such a waste of all that time. I felt so unworthy and disgusting without it. I would avoid mirrors without having make up on."

Amy also battled with anorexia in her teens, weighing just five and a half stone following a suicide attempt.

She then spent two months in south Belfast's anorexia treatment centre, the Beechcroft unit, reaching 6st 2lb, when she was discharged.

However, her addiction to make-up continued and still battling depression, she was hospitalised twice more before being released in December 2016.

She said: "I was sectioned because I knew it was the right place for me. I didn't leave the house in months, I didn't want to be around people. I knew I had to go away to let myself get better."

Since then, Amy has been on the road to recovery and is now speaking out about her experience in a bid to help others.

She added: "I wasn't going out, I just wasn't putting make-up on then. I was working on me and what I was going to do with my life. I felt more valued and I knew what I was doing with my life. I finally had a purpose with blogging."

Viewers of the segment on This Morning flocked to Twitter to show their support.
