There's always been the classic phrase that if Bill Gates dropped a $100 note, it literally wouldn't be worth his time to bend down and pick it up because by that time, he'd have already made it back, and then some.

But then again, there's no harm in picking up the note.

However, considering that his net worth has continued to rise month on month, he's worth some serious coin. According to Forbes, the philanthropist has a net worth of $90.1 billion - yes with a B. It's hard to comprehend how that money could be used by just one person, but of course, the 62-year-old doesn't keep it all to himself.

If he did, for example, give his entire net worth out to the entire UK population it would give every citizen, young and old, £1,372 ($1,842). That would be a pretty decent early Christmas present, or provide the ability to buy some even more awesome presents.

Having that cash in the bank could purchase roughly 395 pints of beer, 551 Lynx duo gift sets, 34 Paco Rabanne 1 Million 50ml Spray or if you wanted to jazz up the festive season, 4 Dom Pérignon 2009 Vintage Champage Magnums.

Sure, your family would probably get sick of getting the same present every year but at least you'd be covered.

While Mr Gates has a fortune that some of us could only dream of, he's revealed what he'd do if, for some reason, that wealth came crashing down one day. According to a blog post he made earlier this year, he hypothesized what he'd do if he was on $2 a day.

He wrote: "There's no single right answer, of course, and poverty looks different in different places.

"But through my work with the foundation, I've met many people in poor countries who raise chickens, and I have learned a lot about the ins and outs of owning these birds. It's pretty clear to me that just about anyone who's living in extreme poverty is better off if they have chickens."

His mains reasons? Chickens are cheap and easy to take care of. They're a worthwhile investment. Eating chickens - and their eggs - is good for your health, and most importantly, they generate income.

Touch wood that his immense fortune never crumbles because he's doing some amazing things through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
