Here's What The Most Commonly Misused Emojis Actually Mean

The truth.

We all blindly use emojis and consider them as an important part of our texting arsenal.

However, emojis are often used completely out of context due to the fact there's no way of knowing exactly what they mean. We can obviously understand your standard smiley face and winking face, but what do the ones that are commonly misused mean?

According to a site called Pop Sugar, this is what their actual meanings are:

Despite the fact this clearly looks like a variation of a crying face, it's someone who is sleepy. I can't say I've ever leaked from my face when being tired, so I'm not entirely sure what the water droplet represents.

Apparently, this is a look of triumph. I always thought it was a look of disbelief at the incompetence of an imbecile. Obviously, I was wrong.

This is often used as sort of sassy emoji for when you do something good or if you have no comeback when you're being rinsed. However, it actually represents an information desk person. But to be fair, those kinds of people are normally really sassy.

Many of us will use this as a high five or maybe even as a pair of praying hands. We are wrong. We are all wrong. It's actually a hat tip to Japanese culture where hands pressed together means please or thank you.

I'm not sure what context these are usually used in, I can't say I've ever used them myself. It actually represents openness.

Another thought to be a variation of a crying face, but is something completely different. It's actually a relieved face (not sure that's what you actually look like when you're relieved). But apparently it's the feeling of relief after a stressful situation.

This is probably the most commonly misused face. It's used as a crying laughing face, usually typed more than once to emphasise how funny something is. It's actually the face of someone who is experiencing a vast mixture of emotions and ultimately ends up weeping with happiness.

I doubt anyone will actually change the context in which they use all of these emojis, but at least now you know the truth.
