Identical Twins Recount Mortifying Moment Boyfriend Got Them Mixed Up

Identical Twins Recount Mortifying Moment Boyfriend Got Them Mixed Up

It's plain to see how he made the mistake

As an identical twin, being mistaken for your womb sharing sibling is par for the course. However, it can be a little more awkward when a lover does the mistaking.

Shanae and Renae Nel from Southampton, UK, found this out the hard way while on a night out, when Renae's boyfriend got the sisters mixed up.

Renae said: "In a past relationship, my boyfriend went behind Shanae and touched her in the club as he didn't realise it wasn't me, he was mortified when she turned around."

Renae didn't elaborate on this 'touching', but it seems fair to say the guy should be forgiven for his error; after all, the pair look almost exactly the same.

In fact, the only way to differentiate the 19-year-olds is through a bit of mole mapping, as Renae has one underneath her lip and Shanae has one on her neck - so in a dark nightclub, potentially a bit pissed, the bloke can probably be let off for getting his moles mixed up.

Shanae and Renae have been mistaken for each other many a time.

What's more, the twins make distinguishing them even more tricky than it already is by mirroring each other in just about every way possible. They have the same hairstyle, wear the same clothes and even study the same English Language course.

It was not always this way, though.

Shanae said: "When we were in school we used to hate being twins and wanted to be individuals so we would wear different clothes and have our hair in different styles.

"But last year we decided to just embrace it and now we will never buy something to wear if the other one doesn't agree.

"We do everything together, it is amazing having a twin as you always have a forever friend who can comfort you when you are down.

"We both now adore being identical and we wouldn't have it any other way, it is our trademark to be the same and we love it."

The twins said they have deliberately attempted to trick boyfriends in the past, but apparently it doesn't work for long.

Renae said: "People always think we plan to get into a relationship at the same time, but it just weirdly happens.

"When we do have boyfriends, they always know the difference, I guess because they know us more on a personal level.

"We have tried to prank previous boyfriends by pretending to be each other on video calls but after about one minute they would realise it was the wrong twin.

"But it was still not impressive that it took them that long to catch on."

Jeez, sounds like you'd have a better chance of impressing Shania Twain.
