KFC To Open World's First High-Tech Drive-Thru Service In Australia

Please roll this out everywhere.

When fast food retailers started offering drive-thru options, the world was changed forever.

We didn't have to park our vehicles, make the long walk to the restaurant and then wait in line until our food arrived.

But KFC Australia is hoping to switch things up a bit by making this process even more streamlined. The massive chicken producer is looking at setting up its first ever high-tech drive-thru operation right here in the Land Down Under.

The project will essentially be drive-thru only, meaning you can't go into the franchise even if you wanted to stretch your legs.

It'll be trialled in Newcastle, New South Wales and will even feature an app where you can order your food before you arrive. That's kind of difficult considering you'd have to operate your phone while you're driving or just have some extreme fore-thought.

But this would hopefully cut down on uber long wait lines at drive-thru restaurants.

KFC chief marketing officer Kirsti Woolrych told news.com.au: "Click and collect is just becoming such a natural part of everyday life, and people are much more comfortable purchasing on a mobile phone now than ever before.

"When you look at food within that, food is the fastest growing sector for online ordering and what we're seeing in our own data is that our customers are ordering through online channels more and more.

"What that shows is people are looking for faster, easier, and more convenient options, and the drive-through only format gives us the opportunity to connect with what is a faster and more seamless ordering experience with a faster and more seamless collect experience."

You can't argue with that.

If this is a big success, there's no doubt there'll be plenty of brands that will try to mirror the seamlessness of strictly drive-thru retailing. Think of all those stores that you see along a highway; they would be silly not to jump on this delicious bandwagon to get more revenue from us.

You'll still be able to order at the drive-thru section of this revolutionary KFC location; just in case you were worried you wouldn't be able to swing by because you didn't order through the app.

We'll all be waiting with baited breath to see whether this is a success because it could be rolled out across the country.

I, for one, welcome this move and cannot wait to see it in action.
