There are times that we hope, faced with a life-threatening situation, we would do the right thing. It's just that such a situation has to present itself to know what our instant reaction would be. And one guy found out for himself as this terrifying video shows the heart-stopping moment he stepped into a flooded street to pull out a three-year-old girl, potentially putting his own life in danger.

What a LAD.

The girl was carried away by the torrent in Jodhpur, India on July 19.

Local media reports said that her dad had gone to draw money from an ATM with his daughter. By the time he was finished, it started raining heavily, forcing him to wait under a shelter.

It continued to pour and after just one hour drains overflowed, turning roads into gushing streams.

The man had been carrying his young daughter on his shoulder but she slipped and fell into the water. She was swept away by the current.

Her dad was also swept away in a desperate bid to save her.

And it could have ended in devastation had it not been for one hero bystander.

The stranger had taken refuge from the rain inside a shop but saw the terrifying plight and stepped in to pull the youngster out.

The little girl's dad luckily managed to find his feet and joined his daughter in the safety of the shop.

Local police officials said the man had put his daughter's life to risk by taking her out in brutal conditions.

But they said they had no further information and had not filed any complaint over the incident.

And it seems us humans aren't the only heroes on the planet as this dog proved a few weeks ago.

Todd the pooch was willing to go the extra mile to keep his owner, Paula Godwin, safe while she was out walking with him.

Paula nearly stood on a rattlesnake but before she could, Todd threw himself in front of her leg and copped a huge bite to the face. What a brave guy.

"He for sure saved me from getting bit," announced Paula in a video that she posted on her Facebook page. "He's definitely my hero."

So, it looks like we could all learn a lesson or two from Todd and not forgetting the random stranger who risked his life to save the little girl in India. Bravo, you heroes.
