Being paid early, before Christmas, is all well and good at the time, until it gets to the first week of January and you realise you're looking at four long weeks with £100 left in the bank.
If this is you, then you might want to try this little saving challenge that will leave you with an extra £1,456.
The 365-Day Money Challenge by Apartment Therapy involves putting away small amounts every day, which all add up over the course of year but don't leave you feeling out of pocket while you're saving.
The plan involves saving £1 on a Sunday (or whichever day you like) £2 on Monday (or whichever the next day is) and so on, until it gets to Saturday (or the seventh day) where you put aside £7 - after that the whole thing starts again the following week. Or, if all that messing about sounds too much, you could just have the amount for the month taken from your account and placed into a savings account every payday.
The thinking behind the plan is that because it's such a small amount of money - £7 maximum - you won't miss it too much and if you stick to the scheme you'll end up with almost £1,500 by the end of the year, which you can spend on Christmas presents or getting pissed depending on the type of person you are.
This plan is similar to the 52-Week Challenge, which involves saying £1 on the first week and then adding a quid on for every subsequent week - so, £2 in the second week, £3 in the third week, £4 in the fourth week etc.
Using this plan, you'd be able to save up £1,378, so a little less than the 365-Day Challenge and it also has the drawback of you having to put aside around £50 a week in December, when you're already skint and have a million things to buy.
It's got to be worth a shot, hasn't it? Anything's better than another January spent living off own-brand beans and 20p noodles.
