Let's Get Inspiral Carpets' 'Saturn 5' To Number One This Christmas

RIP Craig Gill.

The Christmas number one is a massive talking point every year and it's depressingly been taken over by The X Factor since the show started. That is apart from that glorious campaign back in 2009 that saw Rage Against the Machine beat Joe McElderry to the top, and of course the much deserved NHS Choir song last year.

Fans of real music across the country have been fighting the cause to make sure Simon Cowell doesn't jizz himself waking up to another number one this year, too, and there is a heartbreaking reason for it.

On November 22nd this year, Inspiral Carpets drummer Craig Gill sadly passed away. Inspiral Carpets was formed in Oldham back in 1983, and if you've not heard of them, where have you been all of this time?

A Facebook group was set up in honour of Craig, and its founders and members are passionately doing all they can to take that top spot.

The Madchester band are famous for 'This is How it Feels' and 'Dragging Me Down,' but it's their massive hit 'Saturn 5' that people are campaigning for. Give it a listen!

Inspiral Carpets' website currently has a touching note left by the remaining band members:

"It's with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our drummer and close friend, Craig Gill.

"We are all absolutely devastated by the news. Craig was our brother.

"We were honoured to work alongside him for the last 30 years.

"To say we'll miss him is an understatement. He was the beating heart of the Inspirals in more ways than one.

Our love and thoughts go out to all Craig's family and friends and especially his wife, Rose and their beautiful children, Georgia, Orla and Levon.

Clint, Graham, Martyn, Stephen"
