A Birmingham mum is fuming after her teenage son was excluded from school for not wearing a blazer in 33C heat.

The current scorching weather has been a welcome break for most of us from normal British summer time conditions - which are invariably grey and wet.

But a strict uniform policy is not what you want in a heatwave - and now 13-year-old Blake Fradley's mum Lisa is furious at how King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy dealt with her son for not wearing his blazer in the searing heat.

She told the Birmingham Mail that Blake had been returning to class when a teacher told him to put his jacket back on - and he ended up being excluded for five days after he refused.

Blake Fradley has been excluded until 13 July.

She told the newspaper: "He called me and said he had been excluded - I panicked and my mind was racing wondering what he had done.

"When he told me it was over a blazer I was stunned.

"He had been walking back into his form class when he was pulled aside by a teacher who ordered him to put his blazer back on, but he refused.

"He said it was ridiculously hot."

After the dispute, the school decided to exclude Year Nine student Blake from school until Friday 13 July, meaning he is likely to miss a Spanish speaking exam.

She said: "I don't know what he has done wrong or why he should apologise.

"He's really unhappy as he had a Spanish speaking exam which decides their sets for next year - he had been revising for it, however as he's not there, he hasn't been able to take the exam.

"He's just been moping around the house since.

"He is due to go on a school camping trip in the next few weeks. I now have no idea if this will go ahead."

The school told Blake's mum he had been excluded for 'defiance, rudeness and breaking school rules'.

The school's website says full uniform must be worn 'at all times' and requires the 'highest standard of dress'.

Blake's mum added: "He has done nothing wrong.

"I know of other schools in Birmingham who are allowing their pupils to wear PE T-shirts, rather than full uniform, in this heat.

"We appear to have the strictest school in Birmingham."

According to weather forecasters, pupils and their blazers should have a bit of respite from the roasting heat this week with temperatures falling to freezing mid-20 levels - but the heatwave is set to return later in the month.

The school did not respond to the Birmingham Mail's request for a comment. LADbible has also reached out to King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy for comment.
