Man Allegedly Stole Another Runner’s Bib For London Marathon And Took His Medal

The original owner of the bib was forced off the track due to rules preventing anyone from running without a number

This year's London Marathon produced some pretty amazing stories.

Mo Farah was the fastest Brit in the race, a guy set a record while dressed as Forrest Gump and Katie Price pulled out before the halfway mark while carrying a giant pair of lungs (ironically, she was reportedly seen after the race sucking on a cigarette).

But unfortunately, amongst all the feel-good stories, there's one that has left a rather bad taste in people's mouths.

This guy crossed the line on Sunday, grabbed his medal and even took a sip of a glass of bubbly before walking off. But some onlookers questioned why the shirtless man looked remarkably calm after supposedly running a marathon.

Incredibly, it's believed that that shaved-headed man picked up that bib after it's original owner lost it during the race.

That owner is Jake Halliday, who reportedly had to be escorted from the race after he hit the 24-mile mark because organisers have a strict policy on running without a bib.

Fellow runner Peter Mowbray did the marathon with his wife and heard rumblings about the bib theft when he finished.

He said: "I couldn't believe this so we went on the Virgin London Marathon website and you can clearly see Jake's number and you can clearly see the pictures of Jake are completely different to the guy with his number at the end.

"Running a marathon takes over your life, you think about training, nutrition, avoiding injury, a huge amount dedication, and that's before you think about raising money for your charity.

"For this man to take all the glory and credit for someone else's hard work and endeavour really makes me question human life at the moment, it really does.

"To see this man smiling and postulating with someone else's medal made me personally very, very angry. I felt very sick at first."

He put up the different pictures on Facebook, hoping the post would go viral and allow people to eventually identify the imposter.

Organisers say they are investigating the incident.

Gearing up for a marathon takes hours of dedication, hard work and perseverance, so you can imagine what was going through Jake's head when he not only was forced from the race but then saw some other bloke posing with his bib number.

Hopefully they find this guy and give Jake some sort of reward for his efforts.
