Britain's hearts were broken when they saw pictures of Ronnie, an eight-week-old mongrel, who was the first dog to be dumped at a rescue home in the new year.
He was given to Battersea Dogs and Cats home in south London, just after New Year's Day after his owner lost their home and couldn't look after him.

Battersea says he's just one of roughly 20,000 pets expected to be abandoned in the UK over winter.
Plenty of people put their hands up to rehouse Ronnie and give him love and affection and he's ended up with a young family from South East London
Joanne Taylor and her partner Daniel were very keen to give Ronnie a permanent roof over his head, telling the Daily Mail: "The first couple of nights he was crying and a bit all over the place, but he's settled in nicely now."
The 27-year-old picked him up five days after his photos went viral on the internet and says her two kids are excited to play with him and are teaching the 10-week-old puppy the rights and wrongs of the Taylor household.
Battersea Dogs and Cats got so many applications from people wanting to take Ronnie home, they had to sift through all the people to ensure he would be in the 'perfect' home.
Staff were looking into whether the applicant had pets, kids and what type of house they owned, and the Taylors were reportedly a 100 percent match.
It wasn't until they got home that they worked out that their new addition was the one being shared all over the internet.
Battersea home intake manager Steven Craddock told the Mail Online he wasn't surprised to see a dog placed at their door so early into the new year.
He said: "Ronnie is just one of many thousands of dogs who will be bought off an unregulated website in the coming months and end up in a home where the owner is unprepared and unable to take proper care of them.
"'His new owner did the right thing by bringing him into us where we can look after him and find him a loving new home, which we doubt will take long as he's such a lovely boy."
Beautiful Ronnie has passed all his medical checks and had all the necessary injections and will hopefully lead a happy, healthy life with the Taylors.
