Couple Aged Just 18 And 20 Manage To Buy Their First Property

They weren't interested in getting into the rental market and decided to save £500 each a month to get a decent deposit

Everyone knows about the doom and gloom of the property market and how difficult it can be to get your foot in the door. Depending on where you live, you could be forking out tens of thousands of pounds for just the deposit, and then you're locked into a mortgage for decades until you pay it off.

But one couple has managed to dispel the myth that property ownership isn't for young adults.

At just 18 and 20 years old respectively, Ethan Bragginton and Aimee Howe managed to pick up the keys to their very own three-bed semi-detached property in Leeds for £135,000 ($188,575). They met each other two years before their big purchase while they were in Spain, with Ethan working as a waiter and Amiee on holiday.

When they both returned to the UK, they started a long-distance relationship, spending alternating weekends in Ethan's home city of London and Amiee's, just outside Leeds. After two years of dating they agreed to move in with each other, but didn't really fancy the rental market.

To be fair, I can't think of many people who like renting, but they do it because they don't have a spare thousand quid for a deposit.

However, Ethan (now 19) and Amiee (now 21) started setting aside £500 ($700) each a month and eventually had £12,000 ($16,758) sitting in their bank account.

Speaking to the Sun, Ethan said: "At first we did make a few offers on properties that were £25,000 more than what we ended up paying, but they ended up going for even more than we could afford."

"In the end we settled on a run-down house that needed a lot of work on it. But it meant that we could get a bigger house for less money and then we could do it up how we liked it."

And they haven't wasted a second in bringing it into the 21st century, as you can see:

Ethan adds: "It's been quite fun actually. I've learned trades and skills like putting radiators on the wall.

"It's been a real group effort. Aimee's parents have helped us out and I've had friends and family up from London to help us with the painting too.

"I've never had kids, but I can tell you, when we finally got the keys it was what I imagine becoming a dad is like."

They're definitely not resting on their laurels and are hoping this is the first in a lengthy property portfolio to keep them living the dream.
