Swingers parties can be a fun way for people to explore their sexuality and let loose a little bit in a room full of horny strangers.

Obviously, it goes without saying that there are rules to remember before you walk through the doors and one of those is that you have to be over 18-years-old.

So you can imagine people's surprise when they thought they saw a child walk into The Spa Hotel in Stanley, Durham.

According to Chronicle Live, officers swooped on the building to locate the child and were left a wee bit embarrassed when they found out that the person they were looking for was just a short woman.

A statement from the police force told the site: "Police were called at around 9pm on July 16 2015 following concerns a child had entered a hotel named ClubF on High Street, Stanley. Officers spoke to the staff at the hotel who confirmed the female was one of their customers who was an adult woman."

The owner of the club reckons that the 999 call might have been from a neighbour. It's certainly not the first time the police have been called to the building and have actually attended nearly 20 calls since 2015.

There was a swingers party in Melbourne, Australia, that attracted headlines for all the wrong reasons when two people were shot by police during a raid.

A man and woman, dressed up as comic book villains The Joker and Harley Quinn, were taken to hospital after the bizarre mix-up at the Saints and Sinners sex party at the Inflation nightclub.

Armed police raided the club on reports a man was inside with a weapon, and when they arrived, they confronted the bloke dressed as the Joker. The man pulled out the replica pistol, which was a part of his Batman villain outfit, and officers opened fire.

According to the Herald Sun, the triple zero call came from a 'jilted lover' of one of the people inside the club. Martha Tsamis, who owns Inflation Nightclub, posted a scathing message on Facebook, tearing the cops to shreds over the incident.

She said: "Security verified that a plastic toy accessory was displayed to and passed by security and this information was given to police on arrival.

"Security had no concerns prior to the incident and advised police on attendance that they were more than happy to deal with any issues. But police rejected this advice, stormed in, fired three shots, and a tayser [sic], with the outcome being two people suffering from serious gunshot wounds."

Following the incident Victoria Police said it would conduct a thorough investigation.
