Dad Promises Daughter £100 For Every A* GCSE She Gets, Leaving Him £1,400 Down

Ah, GCSE results week - remember that, eh? The nerves, the fear, the worry... and for one girl, the promise of £100 per A*. Yup, a hundred smackers for each top mark. I think it's fair to say I'd have put a bit more effort in if my folks offered me a similar deal.

Anyway, 16-year-old Molly Rowlands, from Rhondda, only went and absolutely smashed her exams, leaving her poor dad Clive £1,400 out of pocket after scooping top grades for every subject she sat. Nicely done.

Clive, 58, initially made the promise while his daughter was in year 10 and probably had no idea how much it was going to end up costing him, Wales Online reports.

According to Molly's teachers she picked up the 'school's best ever results'.

Clive told the news outlet: "It was two years ago now and it was a bit of a joke at the time - I had a bit of a shock when I heard."

Meanwhile, Molly is feeling pretty pleased with herself, telling Wales Online: "I worked so hard but I never thought it would actually happen.

"I came to school a bit late and then I opened the envelope with my friend.

"When I opened the results I was just in tears - I burst out crying.

"I spoke to who one of my teachers and he said they were the best results the school has ever seen."

The promise of cold, hard cash in return for putting in the work was a bit of a running joke within the family, with Molly saying she 'really didn't know' what results she'd get.

She said she revised for around four or five hours every evening ahead of her exams and that she also studied over the weekend, but that she didn't put in all that effort for the money.

"It was two years ago before I started my exams," she said.

"I was just joking around saying what are you going to give me when I pass - he said £100 for every A*.

"We were only joking."

After the family found out about the promise they kept up the joke, with Clive's mates eventually hearing about it, too - no way to back out then, eh, Clive.

Brainy Molly now plans to go on to study her A Levels and presumably Clive will be careful with any financial promises he makes in future.
