A Kent man has gotten more than he bargained for after embarrassing images of pornography were seen in the background of a photo of an ornamental owl that he was attempting to sell online.
The man posted the picture of the owl to eBay with a price of £37, hoping to find a taker for the seven and a half inch tall antique, entitled "Vintage Beswick Owl 104 Beswick England 7 1/2 inches tall."
Unfortunately for him, he also captured his laptop in the background, which was showing an adult website.
There were six images that accompanied the sale, several of which showed the clearly visible images in the background.
"It's obviously an accident," he said when questioned by The Sun, who were tipped off to the incident. "I hadn't noticed or I wouldn't have put it on."
"It's nothing dodgy. Who doesn't watch porn? I'm sure I'm not the first." he added.
It was hardly a superbly staged snap to begin with: aside from the jazz website, other features included another, smaller plastic owl and a discarded pack of Benson & Hedges fags. He'll not be giving up the day job soon we suspect.
One customer reporting that they had seen other products of his and had came across the indecent images while attempting to view other items that he had for sale.
"I bought something from him before and looked to see what else he was selling," the customer told the Sun.
"I couldn't believe it when I saw it. He should have been more careful. Children could have seen it, so eBay should have spotted it too."
eBay have subsequently removed the listing, which had been up online for a whole month before it was spotted. The site's only comment on the issue was a simple "Thanks for bringing it to our attention," to The Sun.
eBay is one of the largest online marketplaces for antiques, connecting customers and collectors with some of the most niche items possible.
Though admittedly, the combination of antique models of owls and pornography is a particularly niche market that probably just includes this man...
