A 21-year-old man who spent £20,000 of his benefits money to look like his idol David Beckham has said that he's finally accepted his looks after being diagnosed with body dysmorphia.

Jack Johnson, from Nottingham, hit headlines late last year after he appeared on This Morning to talk about his string of surgeries and cosmetic procedures in an attempt to look like ex-footballer Beckham.

Speaking to the MailOnline, Jack said he has come to terms with who he is after a suicide attempt. He's speaking out to urge other young people to accept who they are and that they 'don't have to look like celebrities'.

Jack, who has recently undergone a gastric band operation on the NHS, says he now plans to pay back the £20,000 benefits cash he used to fund his procedures, which include fillers, tanning injections and an eyebrow lift.

Speaking on This Morning last year, he said: "I lost myself inside, it's alright covering up with make-up or trying to make yourself look better but inside I didn't feel nice so David Beckham, I have always loved him. I love his lifestyle, I love the way he looks, I love how he presents himself, do you know what I mean?

"That's why I want to be like him. When I get my goal to look like him, I feel much better about myself inside."

To add an even weirder twist to the already bizarre story, Jack then wrote a long post on his Facebook page 'confessing' to making the whole thing up.

However, unemployed Jack has now spoken out to say that his obsession with his looks left him feeling suicidal.

He told MailOnline: "I have been having personal help from psychiatrists and I'm in the best place ever now.

"I tried to take my own life because trying to look like Beckham is like a full-time job and is not easy as you think.

"I didn't want to live because I was not getting to my goal and trying to look like Beckham was killing me slowly."

And he now hopes that by speaking out he can encourage others young people to be happy with they are. He has also said he is planning on having his fillers dissolved and his gastric band removed.

He previously managed to piss off pretty much the entire UK by saying he doesn't feel that 'he should have' to work.

He said: "I will stay on benefits as long as possible. I am part of the Beckham brand, you wouldn't see David working in McDonald's would you so why should I work?

"Some people on benefits buy alcohol or cigarettes, I buy surgery or cosmetic work."

But it looks like Jack has grown up a bit now; best of luck to him.
