Smarties Release Orange Only Tubes After Overwhelming Demand

Smarties Release Orange Only Tubes After Overwhelming Demand

Our prayers have been answered....

Despite Smarties coming in different colours, I've always thought they have the same chocolatey flavour with a mild amount of crunch.

However, clearly I haven't been paying enough attention to the more subtle aspects of the small, delicious confectionary, because apparently some of them have a flavour.

Nestle apparently gets more than 500 calls and messages EVERY SINGLE DAY from hungry customers asking where they can orange-only Smarties.

Seasonal Confectionery Manager Iain Beavis said in a statement: "It simply got to the point where we had to make it happen. The orange ones are the only SMARTIES that have their own flavour and they have their very own cult following because of that.

"The distinctive flavour also means that manufacturing them in high volume, on their own, is slightly more difficult to do given the different process and recipe required to get that orange-y taste.

"Our experts have been hard at work to make it happen so that 2017 is the perfect Christmas for fans of Orange SMARTIES."

The orange-only tubes will only appear in ASDA and will only be available for a limited time because some people want to watch the world burn.

But the news has certainly gone down well with orange Smartie lovers around the UK and Ireland.

People have heralded this as 'life changing' and having their 'prayers answered', with the giant 150g tubes costing a mere £1.

The UK is the only place where orange Smarties have a flavour and there is reportedly a special tank in the factory where it gets created through applying natural orange oil. Originally, there was a coffee flavoured Smartie in the 1970s, but that was phased out over time.

According to Nestle: "The orange flavouring was mixed in with the milk chocolate, however it is now only added to the sugar shell and so the chocolate inside the orange shell is the same milk chocolate as the other Smarties.

It follows a decision from Nestle to release a pink-only Smartie range due, again, public demand. Nestle had to give blue Smarties the flick in 2005 when it removed all artificial colouring from their products due to safety concerns.

The company was able to find natural dyes for all Smarties except for the blue one, and decided to introduce a white Smartie. However, Nestle eventually found an appropriate dye and reintroduced blue in 2008, and in Canada in 2010.

So, if you're a massive fan of the orange ones, you better nip to an ASDA quick smart.
