Every few years a new chocolate bar, drink or sweet comes around that gets everyone in a tizz, either through unparalleled levels of excitement or because the new upstart is an affront to what they consider good taste. Or at least good taste between the 65p and £1.50 bracket.

Sometimes, the newcomer justifies its arrival on the scene (Wispa Gold anyone?). Sometimes, it's a shameless campaign to conquer yet more of the market by investing millions of dollars and forcing out all competition even though the product tastes like shite. Sometimes, the launch is even intended to raise awareness about an issue, such as Skittles' decision to remove all colouring from its packaging in the run up to Pride events around the world.

And sometimes it's just a case that the new chocolate bar in Chocolate Bar Town, looks so damn delicious, so sugary and so creamy that it simply can't be ignored. Say hello to KitKat's newest baby brother.

Yup, Nestle have just announced the release of New York Cheesecake KitKat Chunky, a cheesecake-flavoured chocolate wafer with insulin-threatening levels of sugary, delicious wonder. KitKat is no stranger to the 'statement bar'. First there was the Chunky.

Then there was the KitKat Peanut Butter Chunky. Then there was the Avocado and Anchovy Salmon Chunky that didn't go down too well and I just made up. But overall, the cat-infused (presumably) treat has a strong record of taking what is already a great base (chocolate and wafers) and making it mouth-wateringly better somehow. And it looks like that is going to happen again.

Unlike some confectionary releases in the past, however, Nestle is actually going to make the new cheescake version of KitKat available to the British public from September 18 at the not too princely price of 65p. Social media users reacted to the news with an outpouring of goodwill towards the move:

Yup. It's going to be pretty damn good.
