Book that table at her favourite place, go and see that film she fancies or just spend the night flicking through Netflix looking for something romantic, only to end up giving up watching a documentary about Russian prisons. Romance.

Yup, not quite content with Valentine's Day, Christmas, anniversary and birthdays, you've now got to make a bit of a fuss over your missus today, too - but it needn't cost the Earth, remember it's the thought that counts, or so they say.
Before the days of Twitter and Instagram there's a good chance you would have got away with this one, given that, well, it's not exactly a well-known celebration, is it? But now social media will be teeming with posts about the (non) event, so you've got no chance. Sorry about that.
Of course, if you really don't feel like putting your hand in your pocket, or you're busy this evening anyway, you can always pitch it as the perfect chance for your better-half to spend the evening with her girlfriends, thus giving you a chance to do whatever it is you usually do on a Wednesday.

Now there are some naysayers who will claim that today is just another pointless 'national' day; to those people I say, how dare you? And if you still think it is, then maybe you won't want to celebrate national boyfriend's day when it rolls around on 3 October, eh? See, it works both ways, just make sure to pop a little reminder in your other half's calendar so they don't forget and start planning something nice for yourself.
And if you're single well, then, lucky you, you can completely ignore today and get yourself down to Chicken Club at Wetherspoon's without having to worry about someone saying that's not a 'proper date'.
