"Growing old is compulsory, but growing up is optional," or so the saying goes; but one man found to his detriment that this isn't really the case when it comes to wedging your arse into a swing designed for kids.

The embarrassed 20-year-old had to call firefighters to come out and rescue him after he become inside the child's swing. The poor bugger spent more than three hours trapped until police and a fire crew arrived on the scene to cut him free.

After a failed attempt of using a 'shove and pull' method to get the unnamed fella out, his rescuers eventually had to take the swing apart with a screwdriver to set him free.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning at Landseer Park in Ipswich, and after being hauled out of the swing the man told the fire crew he was 'grateful but embarrassed' to be rescued, before shaking hands with the team.

The crew put the swing back together, so it can still be used by other park-goers, hopefully ones who are the right size to use a child's swing.

Taking to Twitter, his rescuers shared the snaps of the incident with the caption: "Always use age appropriate equipment." Good advice, guys.

This chap isn't the first to fall foul of those pesky size restriction, back in 2016, a 14-year-old girl went viral after getting herself wedged in a swing.

After unsuccessfully trying to free her themselves, her pals eventually gave up and called 999.

The swing she was in had to be sawn open so she could get out. Thankfully, there were no injuries beside a bruised ego, obviously, and the teen was very grateful to be freed.

Tweeting after the event, Wolverhampton Fire Station said: "She was very remorseful with exceptional manners more than most adults we meet, children make mistakes and learn, didn't you?" Fair point.
