No parent should outlive their own child.

Sadly, in the case of Sukhi Atwal, that is not the case. However, the mum from West Bromwich has released footage of the moment her son was killed in a car crash.

It's all designed to raise awareness for those who don't wear seatbelts in the car.

Sukhi's son, Amar, was killed in May 2015 when a taxi ploughed into the side of their Mitsubishi.

The video footage is distressing.

The shocking footage shows the taxi driver, Nadeem Hussain, drive straight over a junction, without stopping, before crashing into the side of the car Amar was in.

The impact sent the Outlander flying, with Amar thrown from the wreckage.

The 12-year-old suffered serious head injuries and sadly died in hospital two days later.

His mum said of Amar: "He was such a bright, intelligent, fun-loving boy. He was an innocent victim of the crash and now there is a huge hole which can never be filled in our lives."

She added: "Wearing a seatbelt could have saved his life. At the very least it would have given him a better chance at survival.

"I just hope by encouraging both young and old to try and be as safe as possible they won't have to go through the heartbreak we have."

Hussain was jailed for six years for causing death by dangerous driving.

The mother's efforts are being praised. Special Constable Clive Broadhurst of West Midlands Police hopes the footage will hit home.

"Hopefully it will hit home how wearing a seatbelt can make a difference. She [Sukhi] doesn't want any other family to suffer the heartbreak she has had to endure."

Wearing a seatbelt has been part of the law for the last 30 years and you can be fined up to £500 if you don't wear one when you're supposed to.

Likewise, YOU can be charged, as the driver, if a passenger is under 14 and not wearing one.
