Jeremy Corbyn has appeared on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival in front of a crowd of thousands.

The stage, which sees headliners Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Ed Sheeran for 2017, also played host to the Labour leader just after 4pm on Saturday.

He told the Glastonbury crowd:"There is a message for Donald Trump on a wall over there, it says 'build bridges not walls'.

"Do you know politics is about everyday life? About all of us, what we dream and what we want?... And what was fascinating about the last seven weeks.... The elite got it wrong. Politics is about the lives of all of us.

"The wonderful campaign, that I was proud to be part of, brought people back into politics because they believed there was something in it for them.

"What was inspiring was the large number of young people that got involved for the first time."

Corbyn added: "That politics that got out of the box, will not be going back in the box, because we are achieving something.

"Is it right that people in our country don't have a home and only a street to sleep on? Is it right that so many people live in such poverty, in a society surrounded by such riches? Not it is not.

"Festivals are about coming together... Peace is possible and must be achieved."

He spoke of the sacrifices others had made, throughout history, that allowed us to vote in a democracy.

Earlier, Corbyn has been seen arriving to the site by train.

A fan of the event, Corbyn himself tweeted: "Just arrived at Glastonbury. Met with staff who help make this brilliant festival happen. Looking forward to speaking on Pyramid Stage @ 4."

When he arrived to meet Worthy Farm (the site of the festival) owner, Michael Eavis, Corbyn's car was swamped by a crowd of people dancing and chanting his name.

Michael Eavis told the Glastonbury Free Press about his decision to allow Corbyn to speak.

Eavis said: "We were so thrilled with the result that he had in the election. Millions of young people - Glastonbury people - voted for him. I think he has a fundamental sense of justice, of real political change, of being anti-war and anti-nuclear.

"That's what we've spent our lives campaigning for, too. Since Emily was two, we've been going to London to march for all those things that Jeremy represents."

During the election, the Labour head was persistently questioned on his stance on nuclear weapons. At some points he refused to answer if he would engage in nuclear arms activity.
