There's a lot I could do with 40 grand, like use it as a deposit for a house, or go on a round-the-world trip for a couple of years or even blow it all on a weekend to Las Vegas. Buying a parking space isn't even on the list. That is a lot of money for somewhere to stick your car.
And yet this tiny parking space - it's only 14ft 5in by 6ft 11in - is going under the hammer and is expected to sell at auction for £40,000.
Apparently its in a prime spot in the picturesque seaside town St Ives.
"We have noted continued strong demand for car parking spaces and lock-up garages over recent years," said Katie Semmens, of land and property auctioneers Clive Emson.

"Car parking space of this kind is at a premium in St Ives. The popularity of the resort, combined with the security features of this space and its location just a short distance from the picturesque harbour are sure to draw keen interest at auction.
"We're expecting bids from residents as well second-home and holiday home owners seeking guaranteed parking in the town even at the peak of the summer."
That's just ridiculous though. £40,000 for a tiny parking space in a private car park?

But it's not the first time that a parking space has gone for this kind of dough. Only a few months ago in July, a parking spot in Strood, Kent, was sold at an auction for £32,000.
The average price of a house in St Ives is £320,000 - which makes this fairly unremarkable parking space over ten percent of the price. Yikes.
And of course, if you're looking for a parking space in London you can just forget about it. Last year, a parking space in central London, just behind Hyde Park went on sale for a whopping £350,000.
You could buy a two bedroom flat for that price. Get this, it was only 19.5ft by 8ft. Tiny.
I think I'll stick to taking the bus.
