We're all used to having garden spiders creeping around in the wing mirrors of our cars and making webs, but they're usually tiny and safely positioned on the outside of the vehicle out of harms way. A giant venomous spider lurking inside the sun visor though? Hell no, we didn't sign up for that.

But that's exactly what happened to this unfortunate driver in New South Wales, Australia (where else?), who flicked open his mirror and came face to face with an enormous huntsman spider while on a road trip through the countryside.

Footage shows the moment the brave cameraman came face to face with the giant arachnid just inches from his face.

Speaking about the incident, the cameraman said: "I was travelling home with my father, and noticed I had tomato sauce on my face after eating a pie from the service station.

"I went to wipe my mouth and was already leaning forward to look at the mirror then the spider was there.

"It was so close to my face. I then filmed it before it ran away."

Hunstman spiders are not actively aggressive but are known to bite in self-defence if they feel threatened, and can grow to have a leg span of up to 30cm. Grim.

But if you thought that was a close shave, what about this woman from Kansas City, who thought she had water in her ear but discovered it was actually a spider? NO TA.

Susie Torres said she initially thought the odd sensation in her ear was due to water, but when it didn't go away, she decided to pay a trip to a doctor to find out what was going on.

Thankfully, the venomous spider didn't bite Susie.

Speaking to 41 Action News, she said: "[The medical assistant] ran out and said, 'I'm going to get a couple more people.'

"She then said, 'I think you have an insect in there.'" Cue the horror movie music.

However, Susie is made of sterner stuff than I, because she told the news outlet she wasn't particularly panicked at that point, despite not knowing what type of creepy crawly had made itself at home inside her skull.

"She came back in," Susie said, "and told me it was a spider. They had a few tools and worked their magic and got it out."

Is anyone else really, really impressed with how nails this woman is right now?
