Adults In Hysterics At 'Children's Book' Brenda's Beaver Needs A Barber

The book tells the story of Brenda's big messy beaver and how it scares people away... what on Earth is funny about that?

When I was at school, reading revolved around Biff, Chip and Kipper and The Magic Key. But it seems times have changed, as nowadays it's all about Brenda and her big messy beaver.

Except Brenda's Beaver Needs A Barber isn't really for kids at all. It's part of a series of 'Reach Around Books' which are riddled with double entendres, meaning you can read to your children without being bored out of your mind.

Brenda's Beaver Needs A Barber is truly a story for the whole family.

One parent shared the revelatory book in a post on Facebook which subsequently went viral, receiving more than 6,000 shares and 10,000 comments - so that's a lot of people who have seen Brenda's beaver now.

Judging the book by the cover alone - which of course you should never do - it seems possible that it might, might, just be an innocent children's story being grossly misinterpreted by immature grown-ups. However, as you turn the pages, it becomes apparent that author Bimisi Tayanita definitely knows what they're doing.

On one double page, numerous men can be seen running from Brenda and her beaver as the text reads: "Brenda's beaver's big, Brenda's beaver's hairy. Every guy that's seen it, says Brenda's beaver's scary."

A later outing to the lake is also quite revealing.

The beaver later 'hangs out' by the lake.

It reads: "Brenda took her beaver for a swim down at the lake, by the looks that she received she figured that was a mistake.

"She stuffed that furry mound into a swimming suit. It stuck out all around... it was anything but cute."

I don't want to totally spoil the narrative for you, but the tale sees Brenda's mates have a word with her about her unruly beaver, which is quite messy compared to theirs.

Savanna's, for example, has a 'nice long landing patch', while Krissy's 'is bare, it has no hair... her beaver is Brazilian'.

Brazilian beaver anyone?

If somehow you are still convinced this is just a nice little story about a woman and her scruffy semi-aquatic rodent, then perhaps some of author Bimisi's other titles will make you reconsider: Spank the Monkey Lends a Hand, Suzy Likes to Look at Balls, Put Tony's Nuts in Your Mouth!.

So once you've finished looking at Brenda's beaver, you've got putting Tony's nuts in your mouth to look forward to.

Keep up the noble work Bimisi.
