Is it just me, or are criminals getting more attractive these days? The 'hot felon' trend just keeps on growing, leaving us questioning the argument that breaking the law isn't sexy.

Now the mugshot of a tattooed gang member shared by a Californian police department is the latest to have gone viral, with some people even offering to pay the 'hot' woman's $100,000 bail.

The Facebook post made by the Fresno Police Department showing the image of 20-year-old Mirella Ponce quickly went viral as it attracted over 3,500 shares in just two days.

"The only crime she committed was stealing my heart," one commenter wrote, despite the obvious evidence to the contrary.

"Ima just go bail her out," another person drooled. "Free this hot gangster chick."

Ponce, whom police identified as a member of California's Tiny Rascal Gang, was arrested this past Monday during a routine traffic stop.

Ponce, who was in the car with her infant child and two other TRG members, was arrested on two weapons charges after being found to be in possession of a stolen loaded gun.

One of her fellow passengers was arrested for an unrelated felony charge and both were booked into Fresno County jail.

Alongside Ponce's mugshot, Fresno police shared a photo of Ponce's gun which was also positively received by commenters.

This was because the gun is a rather fetching light purple, ignoring the fact that the weapon is inevitably more dangerous than it looks.

"I don't know what's cuter, her or this gun," one commenter chimed in.

Ponce joins a growing number of 'hot felons' whose mugshots have attracted the attention of fans on social media.

The original 'hot felon' is said to be Jeremy Meeks, a Californian man who also became famous in 2014 after he was arrested for possessing a gun.

He was jailed for 27 months after admitting the charges and has now become a professional model after being snapped up by an agency.

Meeks now lives a life of luxury, showing off his lavish lifestyle on Instagram with pictures of a mansion and a £120,000 Maserati.

We don't know what will happen to Ponce yet but if past trends are anything to go by, her life could still improve in the same way.

And there was me thinking that living life on the straight and narrow is the right way to go. Who says that crime doesn't pay?
