Guy Dupes Twitter Users With 'Heartbreaking' Story About Proposal Going Wrong

You have to give him some credit for pulling it off.

You have to feel sorry for Will Highfield. The 19 year-old had met the love of his life and was gearing up to ask her to marry him. Sure, he may be a little young to know about true love, but who are we to judge? When you meet the one, you just know.

But - as we all also know - hearts can get broken easily and when you least expect. And Will's was shattered in the most unusual way. As he relayed on Twitter, he was about to propose when everything went horrifically wrong thanks to a workmate bursting in, falling over and suffering severe injuries.

Obviously, to deal with the situation at hand, Will put off the proposal to help his workmate, but didn't get the thanks he thought he deserved. Instead, he was left single, after his girlfriend ran off with his colleague.

Clearly still smarting about the incident - and also visibly heartbroken - Will recounted the event in minute detail on Twitter. We'll let him take over from here:

Suffice to say, the online reaction to his tale of heartbreak wasn't one of overriding sympathy. Instead, it was full of people - people like us, to be perfectly honest - who fell for the damn thing hook, line and sinker.

We have to admit, we felt as betrayed as some of those who got suckered in by Will's story, but at the same time, you have to give the guy some credit for pulling it off.

Still, it might all backfire in the end - when he actually gets his heart broken for real, people might not believe him. Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf, Will? Because we have - and we won't ever, ever forget what you put us through. You have been warned...
