Ryanair Trolls British Airways After Plane Landed In The Wrong Country

But the social media stunt backfired immensely.

British Airways has been in damage control ever since a plane bound for Dusseldorf, Germany, somehow ended up in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The airline has faced some pretty harsh criticism and is yet to explain how the 525-mile detour happened.

In the meantime, a rival airline has been quick to use the moment for a bit of savage online trolling.

Writing on Twitter, the official account for Ryanair posted a picture of a 'Geography for Dummies' textbook along with a caption which read: "Hey @British_Airways, we have a present for you."

BA responded with: "Now, now. No one is perfect."

To which the low cost airline said back: "True, Lolly! Even we wouldn't flog Edinburgh as Germany #DusseldorfNorth."

While Ryanair seems to be enjoying the moment, people have been quick to remind the airline of it's past.

One person wrote: "May I remind @Ryanair of the flight FR8582 from London to Thessaloniki, Greece, that landed to Timisoara, Romania (500 miles and 2 international frontiers from its supposed destination). Perhaps, you could read 'Geography for Dummies' first..."

Another added: "Remeber the time your plane landed at Ballykelly Army base instead of City of Derry @Ryanair. Short memory!"

A third said: "The funniest part of all this is you claiming to be Europe's favourite airline in your bio! You once stranded me and my family in Lanzarote and we had to sleep on the airport floor, first and last time flying with you. @British_Airways have always been amazing."

People have also uploaded their own For Dummies textbooks that they reckon Ryanair could take a leaf out of.

According to reports in the BBC, the passengers on the British Airways plane that arrived in the wrong location were only made aware of the mix up when a speaker announcement came on welcoming them all to Edinburgh, after they had landed.

The British Airways statement said: "We have apologised to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually."

German firm WDL Aviation was in charge of the flight, which left London's City Airport. British Airways has now said the company was working with WDL to ascertain exactly how the wrong flight plan was submitted.

WDL Aviation told BI: "We are working closely with the authorities to investigate how the obviously unfortunate mix-up of flight schedules could occur. At no time has the safety of passengers been compromised."

After the initial confusion set in, the flight left Edinburgh and arrived at it's intended destination.
