Earlier this week, everyone's favourite eccentric billionaire Elon Musk posted a cryptic message from his Twitter account:

What could it mean?

Of course, loads of people thought it might have something to do with bitcoin:

Others thought it might be about the upcoming Tesla Model 3:

This poor fella thought it was about him:

But nope, the real answer is much more interesting than any of that, because 35,000 actually refers to the number of hats Musk has sold.

Yup, as well as being a real-life Tony Stark, Musk also sells hats. See?

The Boring Company is one of Musk's projects, which aims to tackle the problem of traffic by creating tunnels - it was that or flying cars, apparently.

If you're wondering what the fuck I'm talking about, here's an extract from the Boring Company's site: "To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head.

"A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunnelling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more - this is the goal of The Boring Company.

"Fast to dig, low cost tunnels would also make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions, enabling travel from New York to Washington DC in less than 30 minutes."

And if you want to prove you're the sort of forward-thinking person who gets in on these things before they're big, then you can purchase a 'The Boring Company' one-size fits all, baseball cap.

Stylish. They're also limited-edition with Musk tweeting to say he will be 'capping' (nice) orders at 50k. So, if you want to get your greasy mitts on one, now is the time.

Musk is flogging these for $20 (£14.92) apiece, meaning he's made $700,000 (£522,144) if he's sold 35,000. Nicely done.
