Plane Makes Emergency Landing Because Of A Passenger's B.O.

The flight to Gran Canaria was forced to make an emergency detour because of an 'unwashed' man

All that recycled air on planes, going round and round the same confined space - you've got no secrets from your fellow passengers up here.

Think you've managed to let out a really stealthy fart? Nope, give it a couple of minutes and the smell of that will be coming out of the air vent directly above the girl in seat 21B.

Now imagine being stuck in a plane with someone whose body odour was so foul, it was making people pass out.

That was the situation on a recent flight from Schiphol Airport to Gran Canaria. Good god.

The 'unwashed' passenger's body odour reportedly caused other holidaymakers to vomit and faint, so bad was the whiff.

The Boeing 737 was forced to make a detour on its way to the Spanish holiday island, stopping in Faro in Portugal to offload the offending man.

Cabin crew on the Transavia flight reportedly tried to quarantine him inside the loos to help the situation, which is quite a mental image, before the pilots diverted the flight.

A fellow passenger snapped the man as he was escorted off the plane and onto a bus by medical staff.

The journey was supposed to be direct between Schiphol Airport, which serves Amsterdam, and Gran Canaria, before the detour was needed.

Piet van Haut, a Belgian passenger on the flight, described the stench of the man as 'unbearable'.

He said: "It was like he hadn't washed himself for several weeks. Several passengers got sick and had to puke."

I mean, we all smell a bit dodgy after a big weekend in Amsterdam, but this does sound like a step too far.

Transavia said the emergency landing was due to 'medical reasons', but no one's said what medical condition the man might be suffering from that's made him smell so bad.

A Transavia spokesman said: "The aeroplane diverted because of medical reasons, but it is indeed right that he smelled quite a bit."

Weirdly, this isn't the first time the airline's been in this position. In February this year, a plane going from Dubai to Amsterdam had to make an emergency landing in Vienna after a passenger couldn't stop farting. That one caused a brawl between passengers.

Suddenly the guy eating a tuna sandwich next to you on the plane doesn't seem like such a dick, does he?
