Some people love making a memorable entrance - whether it's yelling something funny, wearing an outrageous costume or promising to buy the whole pub a round of pints - there's usually no harm done. But most people don't endanger the health and wellbeing of an animal in the process.

Dara Heffernan caught the moment a bloke entered a betting shop riding a Shetland pony. The incident happened at BoyleSports in Moyross, near Limerick, Ireland on Friday - with people inside unsure how to react.

Dara said: "It was funny. It was shocking. It isn't something you see every day. Everyone has been shocked by it.

"I go every day and I have never seen anything like this. It is the strangest thing I have ever seen in my life. Everyone couldn't believe their eyes.

"I took the video as soon as he came in. He left after the video was taken. I haven't got a clue who he was or why he was on the horse."

The video has been posted on Facebook and has been viewed more than a quarter of a million times. While some people commented that it was funny - plenty more weren't laughing.

One person wrote: "Piece of shit should be arrested for animal cruelty. Absolute scum."

Another added: "If you think this is funny, you're actually deranged. What hope have animals got with this treatment of them and others just laugh. Sickens me. Poor pony."

While a third person said: "The poor little horse, imagine how scared he was, some people don't deserve animals at all.'

The pony didn't look like it wanted to be there or have someone riding on its back. After nearly completing a lap of the building, the small horse bucks hard enough to send the bloke flying off.

According to the Irish Independent, BoyleSports said it will not be commenting on the incident.

Dara says the bookies opened the door for the bloke and no one tried too hard to stop him once he got going.

According the UK Shetland Pony Club, the animals can usually take people up to the ages of 10-years-old with another source suggesting they can carry 20 percent of their own weight.

With no information on how much the bloke who rode it weighs, so it's difficult to determine whether he was harming the pony.

Either way, he probably won't be very welcome at BoyleSports the next time he wants to place a bet.
