Man's Reason For Doing 97km/h In 60 Zone Was Because He 'Needed To S**t'

He told police: "Kids have given me gastro.”

Police officers have probably heard every reason under the sun from motorists they catch speeding. Whether it's five kays, 30 or more above the speed limit, some people are very quick to blame something else other than their heavy foot on the accelerator.

Motorists caught red handed might say there was a medical emergency, they didn't see the sign showing the speed limit had changed, they have a dodgy speedo, or even flat out deny that they were going too fast.

But this West Australian man probably takes the cake for the most honest reason for driving well over the limit.

Dalwallinu Police Station, three hours north east of Perth, has posted the traffic infringement on Twitter. The man was allegedly clocked doing 97km/h in a 60 zone on the Great Northern Highway in Pithara.

But when officers asked the gentleman why he was speeding, his response was: "I needed to shit, kids have given me gastro."

Unfortunately, that's not an excuse that runs well with police and they spared him no mercy. He was fined $1200 (£710) and lost his licence after having 12 points deducted due to double demerits during the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Western Australia appears to be a hotbed of weird reasons for speeding, with their traffic police Twitter account naming and shaming some of the worst.

One person was fined $300 (£177) and six demerit points in Wanneroo because he was in a rush to 'get the kids to Nando's'. Another, who was caught doing a 111km/h in a 70-zone, claimed he was 'doing it for my mum, it's a long story'. That incurred a $1,000 (£591) fine and a whopping 14-point deduction due to, you guessed it, double demerits.

But one of the best comes from Bootenal, near Geraldton, where a motorist was pulled over for doing nearly 20km/h over the speed limit, but claimed that 'the wind was pushing me'. Unsurprisingly, the cops didn't believe him and slapped a $200 (£118) fine in his pocket and took off two demerit points while they were at it.

The West Australian Government is increasing the punishments handed to drivers caught speeding. Figures obtained by Perth Now estimate a whopping 52 motorists are being fined every month for doing more than 40 km/h above the listed speed limit. Those people will now face a $1,200 (£709) fine, which is $200 (£118) more expensive than the previous infringement.

Police Minister Michelle Roberts said: "It is clear we have a real problem here and the penalties for high-level speeding need to be severe to deter people from engaging in this reckless and dangerous driving."

It's pretty clear that no excuse will get you out of speeding, not even desperately needing to shit.
