Lad Says He Gets A 'Man Period' Every Time His Best Friend Has Hers

Lad Says He Gets A 'Man Period' Every Time His Best Friend Has Hers

Erm... what?

This is George Fellows and Amber-may Ellis. They're such close friends that their periods have synced up.

But, George is a bloke, so how can he have synced his period with his best friend? In fact, how the fuck can he have a period in the first place? I'll be the first to admit, I was sceptical.

We'll allow George to explain...

Three years ago George, 22, began studying theatre arts, education and deaf studies at the University of Reading. There he met Amber-may, 21, and they've been best friends ever since. They're now flatmates and I quote, "best friend goals."

I think we can all agree that when a man grows close to a woman it is possible to start feeling sad when they're sad and happy when they're happy. Periods though? That's a whole other ball park of closeness.

"It started about two years ago. Me and Amber ended up spending loads of time together and one day I just started getting these awful cramps in the middle of a rehearsal," George told us.

"Amber was like, 'Oh wow, now you know how I feel with period pains!' Eventually they passed but then next month when Amber was on her period, I got them again."

The next few months were all the same and George was convinced he was having what he calls a 'man period' or 'sympathy pains'.

Of course, when I was talking to George I was sceptical too but as it turned out, he'd been to the doctors and they didn't have a clue what was wrong with him.

"They just sent me away with cramp medication thinking I had trapped wind. The meds did nothing. I've gone back and suggested it might be sympathy periods but they just laughed at me. I suppose it is kind of funny," he said.

As any girl will tell you, periods are no laughing matter. However, Amber-may seems to find George's amusing.

She told us: "Sometimes he gets twinges, sometimes full-blown cramps, sometimes mood swings, one time he cried at an advert and once when we didn't buy the right sweets for him. There's always something. It can be annoying because I'm like, I'm the one with the womb here."

Poor George has had a tough time convincing people that his period pains are real, especially as he doesn't/can't bleed because of them - you know, biology and all that. However, Amber-may told me that they do "100% happen."

"Everyone thinks I'm taking the piss but I'm not. I'm being legit. I think it's just because we're so close," George added.

Amber-may continued: "I just find it jokes and really sweet because he must really care about me to get sympathy pains."

Let's put it this way, I'm glad the only thing I love in life as much as these two love each other is Tottenham Hotspur. And, to be fair, how my team is doing does literally dictate my mood for the next week so maybe we should all be less sceptical.

Man periods are real, lads. I'm scared and you should be too.
